Your Spiritual Gifts

Updated: Oct 26, 2021

After talking with one of my Coaches and friend, I was inspired to write about one of the subjects we were discussing. We were talking about the importance of knowing your Spiritual Gifts & learning how to go with them. It’s really similar to a personality test and learning how to go with your natural inclination, having a high capacity to discern and engage in your life’s purpose.

As I continue to evolve, grow and function in my Spiritual gifts, I can see (as I journal) how my walk and faith have developed with GOD. I can also see the challenges it brings. Developing and self-reflecting is really liberating.

Spiritual gifts are tools given by God for doing the work of your own ministry. Everyone has a ministry that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re all going to be going to Seminary school and standing behind a pulpit. Different people are given different gifts for different tasks.

Knowing your spiritual gifts helps you understand how the Holy Spirit works through you.

1 Corinthians 3:9 says, “For we are laborers together with God.” This kind of labor is simply stated, God will not do what HE has called you to do and you cannot do what God has reserved for Himself to do. God works through His children to accomplish His work here on earth. When we use our spiritual gifts, we are allowing God to minister through us, we literally become co-laborers with God.

I want to share with you a copy of the forward to my book To Change The World Being With Yourself.

“Our meeting was not by chance. I met Afua at a Christian Leadership Training. She was clearly walking on her God-given path and purpose. After the conference, I introduced myself as a business owner, an author, and a public speaker, to which Afua replied, “I too am a public speaker. I have been a public speaker for three days.” She had conviction and knew this was what she was meant to do. She did not hesitate to ask me to work with her, knowing nothing about me. I smiled as I saw the faith and belief in her spirit and soul. Only God allows someone to connect and trust you without knowing anything about you. I was immediately attracted to her confidence. She is a leader and a servant, and I am honored and humbled to author this foreword for Afua’s first book. At that time, I was not aware she had been praying for a mentor that lived closer to her home. As God would have it, we discovered we lived six miles apart and were simply a sneeze away from each other. As I too was walking in my calling to grow leaders, my interest peaked at the connection. As we later engaged in conversation, I realized that this was a divine connection and alignment—the very things that Afua prayed for were equipped in me by God. Oh, the joy I felt to continue to be a humble servant to God through mentoring. That journey continues. As time progressed, I could see that the changes and challenges Afua was experiencing were guiding her directly to her destiny. Even though the road was not so smooth, I witnessed her strong faith, diligence, and tenacity in the face of adversity. She knew that God’s hands were involved in every situation and that He remained her present help. His kingdom would get all the glory. Afua shared with me the results of her spiritual gift test. Her five spiritual gifts include:

  • · Discernment: The ability to spiritually identify falsehood

  • · Evangelism: The ability to help non-Christians take the necessary steps to becoming a born- again Christian.

  • · Exhortation: The ability to strengthen, comfort, or urge others to action through the written or spoken word and Biblical truth.

  • · Healing: The ability to act as an intermediary in faith and prayer, through the written or spoken word, and the Biblical truth.

  • · Mercy: The ability to feel empathy and care for others.

I immediately thought, “These gifts make sense for what I have seen of Afua.” I saw these attributes in her as we communicated daily through prayer, conversation, and other modes. Afua shows up, walks, and commands a presence as a dedicated, Godly woman prepared to submit, obey, and surrender to His will for her life and purpose. She is an encourager and owns this role like a boss. In this book, Afua covers ten critical steps that she has personally walked through in order to draw closer to God, come into her purpose, and ultimately find her true self. I am confident that the ten steps and the stories told with each step will encourage you to trust God’s purpose for your life and to lead the best life ever. Kudos to you, Afua, on taking the leap to embracing your true self and helping others walk into their true self through Ten Steps to Walking Into Your True Self." Ilka V.
